Ingredients

  • Whole Milk
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Egg Yolks
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Heavy Cream
  • Dark Chocolate (60-70% cocoa)

Instructions

  1. Heat whole milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming.
  2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar until thickened.
  3. Gradually add the heated milk to the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook on low heat until it coats the back of a spoon (5-8 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Let cool.
  5. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering, then pour over chopped dark chocolate. Let sit for 5 minutes before stirring until smooth.
  6. Once the custard is cooled, pour ganache over each custard layer.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before serving. Garnish with cocoa powder or fresh berries if desired.
