Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with parchment paper.
- Cream softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder. Gradually combine this mixture with the wet ingredients, alternating with milk until well blended.
- Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Whip heavy cream until soft peaks form; then add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. If desired, fold in food coloring or luster dust.
- Assemble the cake by frosting between layers and covering the top and sides of the cake. Lightly dust with pearl luster dust for a beautiful finish.
